in her own words...
The Ski & Snowboard World Championships is the next "biggest" event after the Winter Olympics. It takes place every 2 years and it's where you can official be crowned "World Champion". The World Tour is a series of races all year round and at the end of the season there is an overall World Cup winner.
I'm super happy with my 14th place in the individual Snowboardcross event. This is my best result of the season and also half of my Olympic criteria met. I really enjoyed the whole experience and it being a multi sport event. The course was more technical so I'm happy I managed to perform on the bigger stage and come out in one piece! Although there is still a long way to go, this gives me confidence going forward. It was great that they showed it live on the red button back home for my friends and family to watch. All the support was amazing and really put North Wales on the map!
This year is a bit different because it's the Olympic qualifying year so there is a lot of build up for that. It is definitely on my mind but I'm keeping open minded and taking one race at a time. Especially as it's only my first season on the World tour.
Unfortunately, due to the conditions (snow, headwind & fog) and a sore knee (me) - Zoe Gillings & I pulled out of the team event in order to be fit for the last World Cup in Veysonnaz, Switzerland.
Dates TBC - to suit the most candidates. Provisionally set for the end of April / May time.
Snowsport Wales is looking to put on a Level 1 Snowboard Instructor course at the Plas y Brenin slope – dates will be a weekend (2 days) at the end April/early May to suit applicants.
At the NWSC we are always looking to encouraging individuals to help teach on all of our sessions, and snowboarding is no exception. Interest is continually growing and we are looking to increase the amount of sessions we can offer, and of course this is a qualification which can be used on any dry slope.
The Club heavily subsidises participants (who are club members and able to commit to helping with Club sessions, which also goes to making up their logged hours). As a consequence the cost of the weekend course is £50, which is approx a third of the normal price.
This makes it an extremely attractive offer, and being locally run makes it all the better, not least of all as we will also be able to train up our own Snowboard Instructor Trainers as a consequence as well.
So everyone's a winner!

The Club runs regular Snowboarding lessons throughout the Autumn & Winter season, on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 7pm, & on Sunday afternoons from 1.45 - 2.45pm. We don't run those sessions as regularly through the Spring & Summer, so we ask that folk enquire and book in advance so we can run sessions to suit and on demand.
We do run weekday & daytime 'Have a Go' sessions (in partnership with Plas y Brenin) during holiday periods and you can check our Snowboard North Wales facebook page and the Plas y Brenin website for more information on those.
Boarders are welcome to come along to other suitable and relevant (to riders age and ability) club sessions provided they can turn, stop, control speed, and use the tow.
There is also a Slopestyle session on Sundays from 12.30 - 1.45pm which boarders are also welcome to come along to provided they are suitably comptetent.
We have several small ramps, boxes and rails (thanks to several club members for their time nd efforts in constructing them), and the slope has several in-built features also. We've no big ramps at the moment but i'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before they appear!
As well as the beginner sessions listed above, competent boarders are welcome to our other sessions where appropriate (Tuesday's 7 - 8.30pm; Saturday afternoons 4 - 5.30; & our Slopestyle sessions Sundays 12.30 - 1.45pm) NB. Instruction or coaching will not neccessarily be available on these sessions. The same rates apply for club members - £8 adults & £6 juniors (u16's).
