A team of our Junior Flyers travelled to the Chill Factore in Manchester for the first 2 rounds of the GBR Indoor series. An entry of over 150 racers meant an early start to race day and therefore a very early start for the journey from North Wales. The Flyers got the opportunity to watch Laurie Taylor, the current British Under 21 Champion, forerun the course before the racing started. All the flyers put in steady runs down the courses that were set and achieved the following results in their age categories:
Megan Ingle – 10th
Isabelle Shaw – 12th
Merlin Ingle – 11th
Thomas Bromley – 17th
Cameron Shaw – 17th
Scott Collinson- 21st
After the main races a Pro-Slalom was held. This gave the Flyers an opportunity to race in a one run shoot out down a Giant Slalom style course. The high speed racing was a great spectacle for all the spectators and was enjoyed by all the Flyers
Three of our Flyers returned to the Chill Factore on the Sunday for more racing and were joined by Keira and Chay Bonnigton. Again, some more good skiing saw all the Flyers picking up more experience at these top class races. Sunday’s age group results were:
Keira Bonnington - 6th
Megan Ingle – 12th
Chay Bonnigton - 13th
Merlin Ingle – 13th
Scott Collinson – 17th
Special mention goes to Mat Ingle who donned his race gear for his first race following a knee injury in 2016. Not only did he assist the Flyers with course inspection and at the race start but Matt also finished 2nd in the Masters category on both Saturday & Sunday races. Well done Matt and thanks for your help.
Highlight of the weekend for the Flyers was meeting Britain’s Ski racing superstar Dave Ryding. The Flyers had the chance to chat with Dave as he signed their hoodies, race pads and start lists!
The weekend was another great experience for our Junior Flyers. Although we are not standing on the podium yet we are making improvements and the Flyers are building a great team spirit. Bring on the next race!
